Transfer reporter shares verdict on Man Utd forward’s future as Brazilian swap rumour played down
Manchester United splashed the cash on Joshua Zirkzee over the summer but questions already surround his future at the club.
Manchester United saw Rasmus Hojlund go through some ups and downs following his 2023 move from Atalanta.
The Dane blew hot and cold last term and Anthony Martial’s exit meant United simply had to go and sign another striker.
United went back to the Serie A market, signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.
Zirkzee joined United from Bologna in a £36million deal after helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League.
The Dutchman was never particularly prolific in Italy and that certainly hasn’t changed at Old Trafford.
Italian reporter on Joshua Zirkzee future
Zirkzee scored on his Premier League debut against Fulham but has failed to score since.
United fans have been left unconvinced by Zirkzee and there have even been rumours about a potential move away in January.
Reports in Italy suggested earlier in November that Juventus are interested in signing Zirkzee if Dusan Vlahovic doesn’t sign a new deal.
Juve boss Thiago Motta worked with Zirkzee at Bologna and a reunion seems to be in mind over in Turin.
Italian transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has now spoken to SoccerNews in the Netherlands and has been asked about Zirkzee’s future.
Di Marzio claims that there is ‘no chance’ Zirkzee will be leaving United for Juve in the January window.
Zirkzee allegedly wants to prove himself at United and does not want to leave Old Trafford for a return to Italy.
Douglas Luiz has been linked with United as part of a Zirkzee swap deal but Di Marzio adds that the Brazilian midfielder doesn’t want to move either.
“There is simply no chance and there are no talks between Manchester United and Zirkzee’s agent. He does not want to leave United and the same goes for Douglas Luiz, but then at Juventus,” said Di Marzio.
“They want to stay at their clubs and prove themselves on the pitch, so none of that is going to happen in January,” he added.
Juve rumours unlikely to go away
Zirkzee understandably doesn’t want to give up on his United career just months after signing.
It’s been a while since Zirkzee even looked like scoring and he certainly seems short of confidence right now.
United won’t have made that investment in Zirkzee without anticipating some ups and downs for a striker who took a while to find his scoring boots at Bologna.
Realistically though, these Juventus rumours won’t disappear any time soon.
Motta’s presence at Juventus boss means that rumours of a Zirkzee reunion are going to be bubbling away in Italy for the foreseeable future.
Perhaps that move materialises down the line but Zirkzee and United should be focused on trying to make his Old Trafford career a success.
