Owen Hargreaves has waxed lyrical about the potential of one Manchester United star under Ruben Amorim after the Red Devils’ Europa League win on Thursday.

Manchester United welcomed Bodo/Glimt to Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim’s men came from behind to seal all three points against the Norwegian side.

Amorim’s side made a quick start against Bodo/Glimt – similar to their showing against Ipswich Town – after Alejandro Garnacho netted inside the first minute.

Bodo/Glimt then stunned United by scoring twice in four minutes and placed Amorim’s men on the back foot in the Europa League tie on Thursday evening.

However, Rasmus Hojlund came to United’s rescue and the Denmark striker produced a superb finish to pull his side level before half-time.

The 21-year-old Danish forward then completed his brace only five minutes into the second half, with United going on to pick up a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt.

Hargreaves on Man Utd star vs Bodo/Glimt

Speaking on TNT Sports, Owen Hargreaves praised the performance of Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund in the Europa League match at Old Trafford.

Hojlund’s campaign was initially disrupted by a pre-season injury, with the United star missing the opening weeks of the 2024-25 season for the club.

The Denmark international has struggled with consistency in the final third and has netted only four times in 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

Hojlund was forced to settle for a place on the bench against Ipswich Town last weekend, with Ruben Amorim preferring to play Marcus Rashford down the middle.

However, Amorim turned to Hojlund, who came off the bench in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, and handed the Denmark star a start against Bodo/Glimt.

“He is a really talented young man, but he wants to get the goals and that is massive for his confidence,” Hargreaves said.

“The first goal was his press, which helped as well. I loved his finish, the touch and the finish was exceptional.

“He is only going to get better. The goals will help him big time.”

Hargreaves talks Man Utd team under Amorim

United have won only twice in their first five Europa League matches this season, with the Red Devils currently 12th in the league table.

Amorim’s men are still in a comfortable position to progress to the knockout rounds of the European competition, with three matches remaining in the league format.

Hargreaves insisted that United are still a “work in progress” under Amorim and is keen to see the Red Devils improve their “balance as a whole” going forward.

“This team is a long way off the way he wants it,” he said.

“Man Utd have so many good players, but it’s about putting them in a system that is going to be effective.

“I think going forward they will score, but I worry about having two in midfield who have to work incredibly hard – I am not sure they have that in the squad.

“He’s still working on trying to find the best balance in the team. A lot of people are playing different positions, so it’s going to take a bit of time to see these players in different positions, and then he can work out what he wants his best team to be.

“It’s a work in progress. Today, they addressed the goalscoring, but they need to work on the balance as a whole.”
