“He has nothing to…”, Bellingham reacts to Mbappé’s missed penalty
Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid midfielder, expressed his support for Kylian Mbappé after his missed penalty during the defeat against Liverpool (2-0) on Wednesday in the Champions League. Despite a difficult evening, the 25-year-old French striker maintains the confidence of his teammates.
Trailing 1-0, the Merengue had the opportunity to equalize in the 61st minute, but Caoimhin Kelleher, the Reds goalkeeper, brilliantly saved Mbappé's shot. This failure, coupled with a lackluster performance, marked another nightmarish evening for the Frenchman.
Asked by TNT SportsJude Bellingham wanted to play down the situation:
“The penalty is not the reason we lost the match. It was an important moment, but it can happen. Kylian is an extraordinary player, but the pressure on his shoulders is immense because of his talent. »
The 20-year-old England international also highlighted the team's collective responsibility in this defeat:
“We weren't good enough as a group. Kylian can hold his head high. I know he will bring many more decisive moments for this club. »
Bellingham, known for his leadership despite his young age, analyzed the reasons for Madrid's failure:
“From the first minute, Liverpool took control. We never really maximized our possession periods. When we won the ball back, we forced counter-attacks too often, which led to frequent turnovers. Defensively, they neutralized us, and we were unable to hurt them. »
He also recognized the Reds' superior mindset:
“They were just more motivated than us, which is disappointing. It's a bad result against the most successful team in Europe. Losing here is not a shame, but we are disappointed with our performance. »
With only six points in five days, Real Madrid are 24th in the general ranking and occupy the last qualifying place for the play-offs. Aware of the need to respond, Bellingham concluded:
“We have three games left in the group. We must win them all to maximize our chances of qualifying. »
The pressure is therefore on the shoulders of the Merengue to raise their heads and save their European campaign.
