Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting should not be without a club for much longer. The Cameroonian international, who spent several months without a team, seems close to finalizing his return to the field.

Since his departure from Bayern Munich on July 1, the 35-year-old striker was officially free from any contract. However, according to Sky Sport Germany's knowledgeable journalist Florian Plettenberg, Choupo-Moting is set to take on a new challenge. He is reportedly on the verge of signing with the New York Red Bulls in MLS, a step that could mark an interesting turning point in the end of his career.

According to the same sources, all negotiations were successful, and the official documents were signed. The Cameroonian international, who has 73 caps and 20 goals, but has not been called up since last June, successfully passed his medical examination. He has signed up for a two-year contract which will begin in January 2025.

If he does indeed join the New York Red Bulls, it will be the eighth club of his career, marking a new stage in an unprecedented setting. Until now, Choupo-Moting has played mainly in Germany, with notable stints in England (Stoke City) and France under the colors of PSG. At the Red Bulls, he will find two other Africans, the Ghanaians Mohammed Sofo and Ronald Donkor, currently the only players from the continent in this team ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference.

This transfer could also offer Choupo-Moting an opportunity to revive his international career. After being excluded from the plans of former coach Rigobert Song, he briefly returned to the selection under Marc Brys, although he was only called up last June without coming into play. A strong return to the field could therefore help him regain his place in the national team.
