Thierry Henry questions Flick’s work, “It was Xavi who did it…”
FC Barcelona dominated Red Star 5-2 away on Matchday 4 of the Champions League last night, and praise is pouring in today for the Catalan side, who are impressing under the guidance of their new coach, Hans Dieter Flick. On the set of CBS Sport, Jamie Carragher praised the work of the German technician, but he was quickly contradicted by Thierry Henry, who shares a different vision.
“I don't think Flick has started a new era. It was Xavi who started it,” Henry said. “Flick is simply continuing what Xavi started. It was he who launched players like Cubarsi, Lamine… Xavi brought out a lot of young talent. He left, Flick arrived, but the two years playing under Xavi, especially after a complicated season like the last, are where you learn the most about character and the demands of the top level. »
Henry went even further, claiming that this Barcelona team could well be one of the favorites to win the Champions League. “Will they win it? Sometimes it takes losing a semi-final or a quarter-final to understand how difficult it is to go to the end. But they have the means to achieve it. »
Words which do not fail to underline the potential of the team, while recalling the importance of the legacy left by Xavi.
