Aliou Cissé betrayed by the FSF? An unexpected and shattering revelation falls

Aliou Cissé, nicknamed “El-Tactico” for his strategic vision, was informed of the end of his contract between two periods of assembly, and even though he had already established the list of players for the double confrontation planned against Malawi as part of the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco. This abrupt change was motivated by a joint decision by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the State, which, after almost ten years of collaboration, deemed it necessary to end the partnership. The government says there are valid reasons for this decision, although they have not yet been detailed publicly, suggesting that a new chapter for Senegalese football is opening.

The Minister of Sports provides details on the dismissal of Aliou Cissé

The Minister of Sports, Khady Diene Gaye, provided details regarding the end of the contract of Aliou Cissé, former coach of the national team. She recalled that Cissé's contract had expired at the end of August, and that even before this deadline, she had organized a working meeting with the president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). Highlighting her approach of openness and consultation, she explained that, since her arrival at the head of the ministry, she has favored inclusion in decision-making processes affecting sporting areas.

The minister also mentioned that specific objectives set in the contract had not been achieved. These included victory at the last African Cup of Nations (CAN) as well as reaching the quarter-finals at the World Cup. According to her, this non-achievement of certain key objectives influenced the decision not to renew Cissé's contract. She added that there was no tacit renewal clause in the contract, meaning the extension was not automatic. “If a tacit renewal clause had existed, perhaps the federation would have had the possibility of extending the contract without seeking approval from the supervisory authorities,” said Ms. Gaye. This clarification highlights the reasons which led the government to turn the page after nearly ten years of collaboration with Aliou Cissé.
