Pape Thiaw's probable 11 against Malawi with major changes
Likely line-up for Pape Thiaw's first match as Senegal interim coach
During the pre-match press conference against Malawi, held this Thursday, the question was asked to Pape Thiaw regarding his first composition as interim coach of Senegal. While the 3-5-2, often used by his predecessor Aliou Cissé, had not convinced, particularly in terms of animation, he was asked if he intended to maintain this pattern with a few adjustments. True to caution, Thiaw remained evasive.
“We worked hard to win tomorrow's game, and I hope that will be the case. But as for what I propose, I prefer that you discover it on the ground. It’s not something I’m going to reveal now,” said the 2022 African Nations Championship winner.
However, looking at his previous preferences when managing the home side, 4-3-3 appears to be a favored option. This system seems better suited to the profiles of its players.
Towards a return to 4-3-3?
Seny Dieng should take his place in the cages in the absence of Edouard Mendy, despite the promising debut of Cheikh Lo Ndoye in the Lair. Kalidou Koulibaly and Moussa Niakhaté will form the central hinge, supported by Ismail Jakobs on the left and Formose Mendy on the right. In the middle, Pape Gueye should occupy the position of sentinel, with Lamine Camara and Pape Matar Sarr as relays between defense and attack. The offensive sector should be made up of Sadio Mané (left winger), Iliman Ndiaye (right winger), and Boulaye Dia up front.
Probable composition of Senegal:
Seny Dieng – Ismail Jakobs, Kalidou Koulibaly, Moussa Niakhaté, Formose Mendy – Pape Gueye, Lamine Camara, Pape Matar Sarr – Sadio Mané, Iliman Ndiaye, Boulaye Dia.
