The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) is looking for a replacement for Aliou Cissé, whose mandate at the head of the Téranga Lions officially ended in October 2024.

After almost ten years at the head of the team, during which he notably led the Lions of Téranga to a historic victory at the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2021, Aliou Cissé is leaving his post. This decision results from a mutual agreement between the FSF and the Ministry of Sports, against the backdrop of recent performances deemed insufficient in relation to expectations.

According to Me Augustin Senghor, president of the FSF, the federation favors local expertise to ensure this important transition. Several potential candidates have already been mentioned, including Malick Daf, Youssouph Dabo, Habib Beye, and Omar Daf at the top of the list. Augustin Senghor paid tribute to the work of Aliou Cissé, while emphasizing the importance of continuing to rely on local talents, a model which has proven its effectiveness and inspired other African nations.

Pending the appointment of a new permanent coach, an interim duo formed by Pape Bouna Thiaw and Teddy Pellerin, with the support of National Technical Director Mayacine Mar, will take charge of the team for the next competitions, including the qualifications for the CAN 2025 and the 2026 World Cup.
