It has been a whirlwind 24 hours for Dan Gore as his resurgence after injury continues with a first-team return now on the cards.

For the English midfielder – the past week will have been a dream as he returned to Manchester United action after eight months on the sidelines through injury.

The talented 20-year-old midfielder has now featured in three games for the U21 side under Travis Binnion’s management and has demonstrated his class in all three outings.

Gore’s comeback has been promising and has shown that he is still a top prospect and a player United can expect to make that step up into the first-team.

Now, just over a year after making his debut for United, Gore could be set to feature once again in senior football – thanks to the absence of Mason Mount from this week’s Europa League trip to Portugal.

Dan Gore named in Europa League squad to face Porto

On Thursday Manchester United head to Portugal to face off against Porto on game-week two of the 2024/25 Europa League campaign.

In the squad, there was one surprising name involved and a name we have not seen involved in a match-day squad under Erik ten Hag since December 2023 – Dan Gore.

With Mount out, Gore has taken his place in the United squad for Thursday’s game and while this does not guarantee he will be involved, it is great to see that already he has fought his way back into the plans of the United manager.

It is no less than Gore deserves either, with his fighting attitude being a key quality of his and also a key reason he is so beloved by fans already and also the coaches at Carrington.

He battled back from injury and is now taking his rightful place in the first-team – a position he could make his own and effectively nab Toby Collyer’s place.

This call-up came 24 hours after Gore was left disappointed against Hertha Berlin’s U21 side in the International Premier League by being withdrawn earlier than he would have liked.

Now, he will know why this happened and be thankful as he will get the invaluable chance to get back amongst it with the senior team.

Manchester United could still see Kobbie Mainoo partner become a success

The return of Gore highlights how talented the midfielders being produced at Carrington right now are.

Kobbie Mainoo is obviously the crown jewel, but his FA Youth Cup-winning teammate Gore was once thought to have the ability to become just as good.

Aside from Gore and Mainoo, Collyer remains an exciting midfielder and looking even further into the future, Sekou Kone, Jack Fletcher and Jayce Fitzgerald could all make it.

This much talent in one position coming through the academy ranks will delight Ineos who are planning to hand United an academy which is reliable to draw players from yearly again.

Gore heading to Porto could be the start of him playing a big role this season if he plays in the manner we are all aware he is capable of.
