Manchester United take on FC Porto in their second UEFA Europa League match of the 2024/25 campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United drew 1-1 against FC Twente and were perhaps fortunate not to lose the match despite Christian Eriksen firing the Red Devils in front.

Because of how the UEFA Europa League works this season, United’s draw against FC Twente is not the end of the world with the Red Devils playing eight group games in total.

After United’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham on the weekend, Ten Hag’s side must get things right at the Estadio De Dragao, or the external noise may get louder.

Manchester United’s record against FC Porto

As mentioned, United have a good record against Porto with their only defeat in five games coming in 2003/04 when a certain Jose Mourinho beat Sir Alex Ferguson’s United 2-1 in Portugal.

United last faced Porto in 2009 when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a 40-yard screamer with the Red Devils winning 1-0, fans will be hoping for a similar result on Thursday.

Manchester United team news

Kobbie Mainoo was brought off against Tottenham Hotspur in the first half but the United teenager was spotted in training for the Red Devils ahead of the clash against Porto.

Luke Shaw could be set to return soon with the hope being that the Red Devils can welcome the Englishman back after the October international break.

Elsewhere, Leny Yoro remains out injured but has returned to training on grass. Casemiro looks set to be brought into the first team if Mainoo is given a rest.
