Hervé Renard, it's over
Without a position since the end of his mandate at the head of the French women's team, Hervé Renard hopes to quickly find a new challenge.
The Cannes technician also has a very clear preference. Two months after the elimination of the Blue in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games, Renard, who had planned to leave his post, said he was impatient to return to the bench. Although he appreciates this period of rest spent in Senegal, he admits to feeling the call of competition: “It tickles when there are matches on the weekend, competition,” he confided to L 'Team.
Renard did not come far from returning to service this summer. “I almost signed with Nigeria. I thought about it for a long time, weighed the pros and cons, but ultimately declined. This was the best offer I've received so far, the rest didn't interest me. I prefer to wait patiently,” he explained.
A return to France is excluded
Nigeria, however, corresponded to his aspirations, since he knows precisely what he wants: “A national team, preferably, and ideally a team still in the running for qualification for the World Cup. » As for a club? “It’s not my priority. But I am not Guardiola, Zidane, Ancelotti or Klopp. I don't choose my projects like them. »
Hervé Renard still hopes for a rapid evolution of his situation. “In my mind, I can’t imagine taking a gap year. If, in January, I still don't have a national team, what am I going to do? That’s why I can’t be too assertive,” he said. “What's interesting about this time is that the uncertainty of the future creates a certain excitement. Each new project gives new energy, we start from scratch, and it’s exciting. » However, he is categorical: a return to France is out of the question. “Sorry, my phone cuts out, I’m under a tunnel,” he joked.
