After 5 months of conflict between FECAFOOT and MINSEP, the very good news falls for the Indomitable Lions
After several months of tension between two separate technical teams, a single staff to lead the Indomitable Lions was finally appointed by mutual agreement by the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) and the Ministry of Sports (Minsep).
The obvious complicity between Samuel Eto'o and the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, on Sunday, during the Cameroon Cup final at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé, was therefore not feigned. The two men were truly reconciled after more than five months of confrontation and public maneuvering, where each sought to impose their own staff.
The common objective was to ensure control of the management of the national team. Two days after receiving the acclamations of all of Cameroon, the former striker and the minister formalized their reconciliation by appointing, by mutual agreement, a single staff after several discussions.
“ In order to restore the serenity so desired by the Cameroonian people around the national football team “The Indomitable Lions” and in accordance with the Very High Instructions of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul Biya, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and the Cameroon Football Federation have initiated a series of consultations », Indicates a press release dated Tuesday October 1, co-signed by the two leaders, suggesting an intervention by the head of state.
“ These consultations, carried out in a cordial and constructive climate, guided by the desire of both parties to preserve the best interests of the Nation, made it possible to reorganize the technical, administrative and medical staff of the Indomitable Lions », Specifies the press release.
Eto'o retains the majority, several elders appointed by the Minsep excluded
This time, the organization is more fluid. Coach Marc Brys is confirmed, with his assistants Joachim Mununga and Giannis Xilouris. Samuel Eto'o keeps most of his collaborators, notably Martin Ndtoungou Mpile and David Pagou as deputies, while Thierry Ndoh and Patrick Fotso remain Team Press and team doctor respectively. François Omam Biyick and Ashu Bessong are appointed analyst supervisors. Carlos Kameni and Alioum Boukar will work together on goalkeeper training, and Christophe Maouvrier, hired from the start by Minsep, retains his position as physical trainer.
For the position of coordinator of national selections, an intermediate solution was found. Neither Benjamin Banlock, supported by Minsep, nor Benoît Angbwa, proposed by Eto'o, were selected. It was finally the former international Timothée Atouba who was appointed, assisted by Serge Pensy. Consequently, Banlock and Angbwa are excluded, as are Dany Nounkeu, Germain Essengue, and William Ngatchou, all initially designated by the Minsep.
While Marc Brys had to deal with a hybrid staff during the last two gatherings, this time he should benefit from full support for the double confrontation against Kenya on October 11 and 14, as part of the CAN 2025 qualifiers.
