Kobbie Mainoo latest as hamstring injury sustained
The length of time Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could face on the sidelines is being examined.
Bruno Fernandes’ red card was not the only unhappy moment for Manchester United late in the first half against Tottenham.
While Fernandes was being dismissed, teammate Kobbie Mainoo was trudging off towards the sidelines.
Mainoo spoke with the coaching staff before being substituted and walking straight down the tunnel.
Kobbie Mainoo hamstring injury
Erik ten Hag did not shed much light on Kobbie Mainoo’s injury, telling MUTV: “I can’t say in this moment I have to find out but, of course, when a player is coming off before half-time already, then there are some concerns.”
According to The Times, Kobbie Mainoo sustained a hamstring injury and was due to undergo a scan on Monday (30/9) to understand the severity of the problem.
No timescales have been estimated at this stage on when Mainoo might be back, with the results of the scan yet to be disclosed.
Manchester United have to make a quick decision this week whether to fly Mainoo out with the rest of the squad to play Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.
United then face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, before the international break.
Kobbie Mainoo may need rest
Kobbie Mainoo has played at a non-stop pace in 2024 from January through to September. He did not ger a summer break due to Euro 2024, where he helped England reach the final.
While Mainoo has not been bad this season, he has not looked as fresh as he did at points last season, which is completely understandable. An injury has felt somewhat inevitable.
While Erik ten Hag did try to rest him in recent midweek matches, he was a substitute against Barnsley and Twente, Mainoo has now suffered at the very least, an injury scare.
If just an injury scare, then it’s a warning. But in pre-season we saw Rasmus Hojlund suffer a hamstring injury and face around six weeks out of action, and he is still feeling his way back to full sharpness.
One way or another, it’s not wise to rush Mainoo back to action even if he were to get the all-clear.
