Vinicius better than Mbappé!
The debate around the Ballon d'Or is particularly intense this year. While Vinicius Jr seems in a good position according to predictions, Sergio Agüero spoke in favor of the Brazilian's candidacy.
The ceremony for the 68th edition of the Ballon d'Or, organized by France Football, will be held on October 28 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Although many media, particularly in Spain, are already anticipating the coronation of Vinicius Jr, the world of football will have to wait an additional month to know Lionel Messi's successor.
In the meantime, discussions are intensifying among experts, everyone having their opinion on who deserves the title of best player of the 2023-24 season. The names of Vinicius Jr, his teammate Jude Bellingham and Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder, are frequently mentioned among the favorites, while some also defend the chances of Kylian Mbappé.
“He’s a player who creates danger”
Sergio Agüero, the former Skyblues striker, shared his views without hesitation. For him, Vinicius Jr's season, with 24 goals and 11 assists in 39 matches, accompanied by a victory in the Champions League, the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga, is more impressive than that of Mbappé, who scored 44 goals and 11 assists in 48 games, while winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Champions Trophy.
“Last year, Vinicius was better than Mbappé (who joined Real Madrid this summer after his time at Paris Saint-Germain, editor's note). He is a player who creates danger. When Vinicius has the ball, we feel there is a risk. Personally, I prefer Vinicius to win the Ballon d'Or. His season was clearly superior,” said the Argentine, as reported by Marca.
