Luis Enrique criticizes Xavi's FC Barcelona!
The PSG coach has voiced criticism of his former team, FC Barcelona, under Xavi Hernandez in an upcoming documentary.
After a difficult period under Ronald Koeman in the 2021-2022 season, FC Barcelona brought in their former midfielder, Xavi Hernandez, who took over in November 2021. He managed to bring the Catalans out of their lethargy and won La Liga the following season. However, the 2023-2024 season proved to be disastrous for the former Al Sadd SC coach.
“They play like Eibar”
No longer able to reassure his leaders, Xavi Hernandez was sacked at the end of the 2023-2024 season, following comments that were not well received by the club's management. In a Movistar + documentary dedicated to Luis Enrique's first season at PSG, scheduled to air next Monday, the former Spain coach criticized Xavi's style of play at Barça.
“Barça are not a dominant team and their defence is not solid. They lack defensive quality and only pass the ball around. Ter Stegen even broke the record for long passes. They play like Eibar,” Luis Enrique told his staff, ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barça, a match that PSG won 4-1 at Montjuïc, despite an early goal from the Catalans.
