soon to head a club?
Looking for a new challenge since leaving the French women's team, Hervé Renard has not yet found a project that meets his expectations, although he has no shortage of offers.
Officially released from his position with Les Bleues on August 6, following the premature elimination of Les Tricolores at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Renard is currently enjoying a sabbatical period while waiting to find a new challenge.
The Savoyard coach is prioritising taking charge of a men's team with a view to the 2026 World Cup. He has been approached by Egypt and Nigeria in particular, with contract offers of up to 2 million euros, more than four times his salary with the French women's team (400,000 euros gross annually). However, these avenues seem to have closed. The Pharaohs have opted for Hossam Hassan, while the Super Eagles, after complications with Bruno Labbadia, have appointed Augustine Eguavoen as interim manager.
Renard was also linked with the Australian team, but the Australian Federation eventually reached an agreement with Tony Popovic, ending that possibility.
Oddly enough, the former Ivory Coast coach could be heading to a club. According to KingFut, Hervé Renard would be a serious candidate to take the helm of Al-Rayyan SC, in Qatar. A surprise, given his ambition to lead a national team, but if this option comes to fruition, it would mark an unexpected turnaround in the career of this double African champion. To be continued…
