Vinicius Jr receives the terrible news!
Former Brazil international Djalminha has expressed his doubts about Vinícius Júnior's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or this year. Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, the former Auriverde attacking midfielder spoke about his compatriot's current form, particularly in relation to his performances for the Brazilian national team, where he believes the player is not at his best.
During the international break in September, Vinicius Jr failed to carry Brazil. After a narrow victory (1-0) against Ecuador, the Seleção was beaten by Paraguay with a completely transparent Vinicius Jr. Interviewed by the Spanish channel Cadena Ser, the former Brazilian international Djalminha speaks of a difference in Vinícius Júnior's performance when he plays in the Real Madrid jersey compared to his performances with the Seleção.
“Real Madrid's Vinícius is not the same as Brazil's, but Real Madrid is not Brazil either. It's complicated. He plays in a team where everyone knows what they have to do on the pitch, while with Brazil he finds himself in a disorganized team with no real line of conduct,” he explained.
Vinícius Júnior, considered one of Real Madrid's best players, is unable to reproduce the same level of performance with the Brazilian national team. For Djalminha, this situation is partly due to the Seleção's lack of tactical structure, which complicates the striker's task. “For Vinícius it is more difficult to play with Brazil, but that does not excuse his performance not being the same as at Real Madrid,” added the former La Coruña player.
However, Djalminha does not see this drop in form in the national team as an excuse, believing that the talent of Vinícius Júnior should allow him to overcome these difficulties. However, he admits that the difference in context between a club as well organized as Real Madrid and a selection struggling to find a real playing identity makes the situation more complex.
Asked about Vinícius Júnior's chances of winning the prestigious Ballon d'Or 2024, Djalminha was reserved. The former Brazil international acknowledges that the Madrid winger has the talent to claim the trophy, but he believes that the competition is fierce this year, especially with players like Jude Bellingham or Rodri. “It's a pretty complicated question. Looking at those who are competing with him, I think he has a chance to win. However, I think they don't want to give it to him.”he said.
The former Brazil international added that he would not be surprised if Vinícius Júnior did not win the Ballon d'Or, believing that it would not be an injustice if the Real Madrid player were to lose out to other contenders. “If he doesn't win, I don't think it would be a great injustice.”concluded Djalminha.
Despite this reservation, Vinícius Júnior remains one of the most talented players of his generation, both at club and international level. His contribution to Real Madrid's success is undeniable, particularly in their Champions League triumph and impressive performances in La Liga. However, to claim individual accolades such as the Ballon d'Or, his consistency and impact within the Brazilian national team will need to improve.
It remains to be seen whether Vinícius Júnior will be able to overcome the criticism of his international performances and convince the Ballon d'Or judges. For now, he can focus on his performances with Real Madrid, where he continues to dazzle spectators with his spectacular play and ability to score decisive goals.
