Emerse Faé makes revelations
After revealing the list of players for the CAN 2025 qualifiers, Emerse Faé commented on the choice of one player in particular: Sébastien Haller, the Dortmund striker.
Some fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with this selection, criticizing Haller's recent performances at club level. Indeed, the Ivorian striker is going through a difficult period with Dortmund. During an interview, former player Bonaventure Kalou even advised him to leave the club.
According to Kalou, Haller should consider leaving to get more playing time: “At 29, he is at his peak. Before the start of the season, roles are often distributed, and Haller knows his place. For him, the best would be to find a club where he would play regularly. He is a world-class striker who deserves to be seen every weekend. Last season was complicated for him, with an illness followed by an injury. He needs to play every week, and for that, he should leave Dortmund.”
Despite the difficulties encountered by Haller at club level, this did not prevent him from being called up to the national team. Emerse Faé even says he is very satisfied to be able to count on him.
“Haller has a unique career. He was decisive during the last CAN and has always been present in the selection. Although he does not necessarily meet all the current selection criteria, he remains a striker capable of making the difference in crucial moments. We also believe that it is important to support our players, both physically and mentally, and Haller is part of that.
“He is a key player for the staff, and we absolutely wanted to call him up. We have spoken a lot with him and have a good relationship with Dortmund, who have shared their GPS data from friendlies and training with us. Although he has played little in official matches, Sébastien works hard, and his GPS data is excellent,” said Emerse Faé.
