In the video, Ronaldo shared his career ambitions, including his goal of reaching 1,000 goals as a professional player. Currently close to 900 – he currently has 899 career goals – he appeared to take a dig at the king Pelé. “My goal first is 900 goals. And then it will be 1,000,” he began.
The conversation took an interesting turn when Rio Ferdinand mentioned football legends like Pele and Alfredo Di Stefano. Ronaldo responded with humor: “I respect all these legends. But they (his 1000 goals) will all be on video.” he added to set social media ablaze. A few years ago, even before his death, King Pelé adamantly maintained that he had scored more than 1,000 goals in his career.
The 1284 goals of King Pele is still debated
Pelé, considered one of the greatest players in history, is said to have scored 1,284 goals in 1,367 matches, according to some sources. However, this total includes friendlies and less official competitions. On the other hand, according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), his goals in official matches amount to 757, including 643 with Santos and 77 with the Brazilian national team. This distinction between the types of matches has often fueled debates on the statistics of great players.
