Charles Paquille unveils his first list with big surprises
Recently appointed head of the Guinean selection to replace Kaba Diawara, Charles Paquille unveiled his first list of 23 players on Monday to face the DR Congo (September 6 in Kinshasa) and Tanzania (September 10 in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast) as part of the CAN 2025 qualifiers.
To mark his difference, Paquille recalled Mady Camara, the PAOK Salonika midfielder, sidelined by his predecessor since October 2021. Antoine Conté and Cheick Condé are also returning to the Syli National, while Serhou Guirassy, despite his injury which delays his debut with Borussia Dortmund, is on the list.
Key players such as Issiaga Sylla, Moriba Kourouma, Aguibou Camara, Abdoulaye Touré, François Kamano and Mohamed Bayo are present, but there are some notable absences, including Naby Keita. Captain of the U23 team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Keita is going through a difficult time at Werder Bremen and reportedly asked not to be called up. Morgan Guilavogui, recently transferred to FC St. Pauli, has also declined the selection.
Paquille also left out players like Amadou Diawara, Mory Konate, Dembo Sylla and Yasser Balde, while two local players join the group: goalkeeper Kémoko Toure (Milo FC) and striker Mohamed Saliou Bangoura (Hafia).
