Emerse Faé unveils Ivory Coast list with big surprises
The coach of the Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire, Emerse Faé, has just revealed the list of players selected to play the first and second days of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. And once again, the 40-year-old coach has made strong choices.
Reigning African champions, the Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire will try to qualify for the next edition of the African Cup in order to put their title on the line. In great shape since the arrival of Emerse Faé, the national team of 225 will launch the qualifiers on September 6, next week, against the Chipolopolo of Zambia at home. After this first day, the Ivorians should travel to Cameroon to face Chad, who will play their home games there.
For these first two days, the Ivorian coach revealed his list on Monday. And as usual, there are surprises in this list. If we find regulars from recent months like Yahia Fofana, Willy Boly, Evan Ndicka, Odilon Kossounou, Franck Kessié or Sébastien Haller, big names who participated in the CAN 2023, like Seko Fofana or Ibrahim Sangaré, are absent. Still in a complex situation with his club, Wilfried Zaha has not been called up either.
Among the newcomers or returnees, the nice surprise is that of Mancunian Amad Diallo, who will return to the national team for these qualifiers. In great form on the Manchester United side, the young striker, who has just lost his adoptive mother, will try to bring pep and tone to the Ivorian attack against the Zambians and Chadians. Among the new faces we find Dorgeles Mario, player of the Nordsjaelland club in Norway.
Here is the complete list of players called up by Faé for the CAN 2025 qualifiers.
