Following the elimination of the French women's team in the quarter-finals of the football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Hervé Renard is leaving his position as coach of Les Bleues, which he has held since March 2023.

On Saturday, Hervé Renard managed his last match at the helm of Les Bleues. In the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics, the team lost to Brazil (0-1), despite numerous scoring opportunities, including a missed penalty. As announced by Renard last March, he is leaving Les Tricolores four months before the start of the tournament.

“I came to reach a semi-final and this (Saturday) evening, we didn’t get past that. You’re the ones who draw the conclusions. It’s easy to draw conclusions when you… But when you see the number of chances we had tonight and when you see the production we made… What do you want me to tell you?”Renard said at a press conference, half-acknowledging his failure when asked to draw a conclusion.

He also expressed his emotion by paying tribute to his colleagues. “Yes, because they were exceptional people. I have told you this often. Perhaps you thought I played the violin a little. But I never do. When I have something to say, I say it. I speak frankly. I am really disappointed for them. I had everything I needed and I did not succeed.”
