Coach severely criticizes Ziyech and Zaha!
After Galatasaray's heavy defeat against Besiktas (0-5) in the Turkish Super Cup on Saturday, coach Okan Buruk strongly criticized the performance of his players, particularly targeting Moroccan Hakim Ziyech and Ivorian Wilfried Zaha.
First disappointment of the season for the Turkish champion. In its first official match of the 2024-25 season, after a mixed preparation (2 wins and 3 losses), Galatasaray suffered a severe defeat, conceding two goals in two minutes during added time (90th + 1, 90th + 2).
Ziyech and Zaha singled out
After the match, Okan Buruk did not mince his words against his players, particularly towards Hakim Ziyech and Wilfried Zaha. “We struggle to produce play with Ziyech and Zaha on the wings. Their performance was insufficient, as was that of their teammates. We clearly did not play well,” lamented the Turkish coach in a press conference.
Freshly extended this summer after a convincing loan last season, Ziyech failed to stand out in this collective debacle. On his right flank, the Moroccan international (62 caps, 23 goals) failed to make a difference throughout the first half, from the early opening of the score until his exit at the hour mark, shortly after the second goal (53rd). The same goes for his Ivorian counterpart on the left side, who came into play for the last quarter of an hour.
Both players will be particularly expected for the next Süper Lig match next Friday against Hatayspor.
