Carlo Ancelotti makes big announcement about his future at Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti, when asked about his future, is probably living his last years as a coach. After Real Madrid, he is considering retirement.
For this new season at the head of Real Madrid, Ancelotti, at 65, continues to show his talent. Winner of the Champions League last season, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final, he thus won his 5th C1 as a coach, and his 3rd with the Spanish club, after 2014 and 2022. Despite the generation gap with his players, he improves with time, like the good wine he appreciates so much. His contract with Real Madrid runs until 2026, two more seasons. Then, a well-deserved retirement seems to await him.
“I think this will be my last club,” he told John Obi Mikel's Obi One podcast, his former Chelsea player. He also admitted that defeats still hurt, despite an impressive record: “This is my 29th season as a manager. I've won a lot of things, but imagine how many titles I've lost. I've lost a lot of things.”
This prospect must make the less fortunate coaches smile, those who have never won anything, which is the majority. Ancelotti, with humor, recognizes his exceptional career: “I was lucky. I coached the best teams in England, Spain, Germany. I was able to adapt to the culture, learn the languages. I learned English, Spanish, French, but German is impossible – not difficult, impossible!” he says, laughing.
Last winter, he was close to joining the Brazilian national team, an announcement made prematurely by the president of the federation since it never materialized. Ancelotti seems unenthusiastic about the idea of becoming a coach: “If there was an opportunity for a national team? I don't know. I'm not very enthusiastic because I would lose what I like the most, the daily grind. It's the daily grind that I like: preparing training, talking to the players, preparing the matches.” That's what is said.
